Mumbai Air Port: The GVK Group on Wednesday clarified that there was no external pressure on it to sell its stake in Mumbai Airport. Let us tell you that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had accused the GVK group of being under pressure in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. In Parliament, Rahul Gandhi had said that the Government of India took Mumbai airport from GVK and handed it over to Adani by using agencies like CBI and ED.

Whatever we did was in the interest of the company: Sanjay Reddy

A day after this allegation by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, GVK has given this statement in this matter. Sanjay Reddy, Vice Chairman of GVK Group, in a conversation with a TV channel explained the circumstances that led to the stake sale in Mumbai Airport. Reddy said the GVK group wanted to raise funds for the airport business. He told that Gautam Adani, head of the Adani Group, had contacted him and said that he was interested in the airport and whether the GVK Group was willing to do a deal with him. Reddy said, Adani talked about completion of the deal in a month. It was very important for us. Whatever we did was in the interest of the company. We had to repay the loan to the financial institutions and hence the deal had to be completed as soon as possible. Since no other investor showed interest, we struck a deal with Adani.

There was no pressure from Adani or the government on us: Vice President of GVK Group

At the same time, a GVK spokesperson told news agency PTI that the decision to sell the stake in Mumbai airport to Adani was taken by the management and no external pressure was put on us for this. It is noteworthy that after the report of American financial research and investment company Hindenburg Research, there has been a lot of uproar regarding the Adani group. In this report, the Adani Group has been accused of fraud in the transaction. At the same time, on the allegations leveled by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Adani Group, GVK Group Vice President GV Sanjay Reddy said that as far as GVK selling Mumbai airport is concerned, neither we nor Gautam Adani or the government had any pressure. We sold the airport keeping in mind the commercial interests.
