India’s famous ‘skydiver’ Sheetal Mahajan has achieved a new feat by becoming the first woman in the world to jump from a helicopter from a height of 21,500 feet in front of Mount Everest.
41-year-old Mahajan, a recipient of Padmashree, India’s fourth highest civilian award, and holder of multiple ‘skydiving’ records, jumped off the face of the world’s highest peak Mount Everest on November 13.
He wrote on his Facebook page, “I made the best jump of my life from 21,500 feet in front of Mount Everest and landed at the highest altitude of Kalapathar 17,444 feet / 5,317 meters. “I have become the first woman to skydive at the highest altitude.”
Earlier on November 11, Mahajan had made his first jump from 5,000 feet AGL (above ground level) to 17,500 feet, and he would be working with New Zealand’s famous ‘skydiver’ Wendy Smith as his instructor in the aircraft. Hua successfully landed at Syangboche Airport at an altitude of 12,500 feet.
