Thimphu, March 23 (HS). Today (Saturday) is the last day of the two-day state visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. India is famous all around in Bhutan. People are very happy with the strengthening relations between India and Bhutan. Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Maternal and Child Hospital in Thimphu today. This state-of-the-art hospital in Thimphu has been constructed with the assistance of the Government of India.
Prime Minister Modi, who arrived here yesterday (Friday), was decorated with Bhutan’s highest civilian honour, the ‘Order of the Druk Gyalpo’. He is the first head of a foreign government to receive this honour. Prime Minister Modi has been awarded this honor for his “outstanding contribution to the development of India-Bhutan relations and his distinguished service to the Bhutanese nation and its people”. Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Nangyal Wangchuck honored Prime Minister Modi with the ‘Order of the Druk Gyalpo’. The honor was announced by the King of Bhutan at the 114th National Day celebrations on December 17, 2021.
Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude to Bhutan for the honor and dedicated it to 140 crore Indians. Prime Minister Modi addressed the gathering present on this occasion. He said, “This honor is not my personal achievement. This is the honor of India and 140 crore Indians. I humbly accept this honor on behalf of all Indians in this great land of Bhutan. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for this honour.
The Prime Minister said that India-Bhutan partnership is not limited to land and water only. Bhutan is now India’s partner in its space missions. Bhutan’s scientists have launched the satellite in collaboration with ISRO. The aspirations of the youth of India and Bhutan are similar. India has decided to become a developed nation by 2047. Bhutan has decided to become a “high income” country by 2034.
Assuring Bhutan of cooperation in achieving its goals, the Prime Minister said India stands with you for “BB” – Brand Bhutan and Bhutan “Believes”. The coming five years will give a new energy to our relations. We will work to create pathways in connectivity, infrastructure, trade and energy sectors.
