In an interview with The Atlantic, Blinken said Putin may have reacted more irrationally.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s big statement regarding Russia-Ukraine has come to the fore. He said in an interview that Russian President Vladimir Putin would have launched a nuclear attack on Ukraine long ago to end this war. Ahead of his visit to India for the G20 summit, Blinken credited India and China for opposing the use of nuclear weapons on the battlefield. In an interview with The Atlantic, Blinken said Putin may have reacted more irrationally. Such language was coming out from Moscow and it seemed that a nuclear attack could be done from Russia’s side. This was a matter of concern.

Blinken said, we urged all the countries whose relations are good to end this war. This also includes China and India. It also had an effect. Both countries tried to prevent Russia from launching a nuclear attack on Ukraine and it was successful. Countries like China, India completely opposed him (Vladimir Putin) to any use of nuclear. Blinken said that we know that he conveyed those messages and I think it had some effect.

Antony Blinken also acknowledged that India and Russia have a decades-old relationship. But now things are moving favorably between India and America as well. For decades India primarily had Russia providing military equipment to it and its defence, but what we have seen in the last few years is a further shift in relying on Russia and in partnership with us and with other countries like France. The trajectory is to grow.
