In response to this he said that first we have to see in what background this visit took place. He said that before reaching Iran, Jaishankar spoke to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Just a day after this conversation, news came that America and Britain had launched attacks against Houthis in Yemen. He said that after this Jaishankar reached Tehran and immediately after his meeting with Iranian leaders, news came that Iran had attacked in Syria, Iraq and Pakistan. He said that it cannot be said with certainty whether there is any coincidence or connection between these meetings and the incidents of attacks, but it definitely shows that India is playing an important role in global affairs. He said that apart from this it also has to be seen that Israel-Hamas and Iran are entangled with each other in West Asia but India has good relations with Israel, Palestine and Iran, hence it is possible that efforts are being made that India Use your influence to end the conflict in West Asia.

Brigadier Shri DS Tripathi (Retd) said that apart from this, India and Iran have always been taking steps to keep their historical relations strong. He said Jaishankar met Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdullahian and their discussions focused on the long-term framework for India’s participation in the strategically important Chabahar port and the North-South Connectivity Project. Jaishankar also met Iranian President Dr. Ebrahim Raisi and conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s good wishes. He said the talks were reported to have focused on the long-term framework for India’s engagement with the Chabahar Port and the INSTC connectivity project. Jaishankar also talked about the dangers to maritime navigation in the region and stressed that it is important that the issue is “expeditiously addressed”. He said it was apparently a reference to the targeting of merchant ships in the Red Sea by Iran-backed Yemen’s Houthi rebels amid the Israel-Hamas confrontation.

Brigadier Shri DS Tripathi (Retd) said that India is closely monitoring the evolving situation in the Red Sea. He said Jaishankar had said after the meeting with the Iranian Foreign Minister that other issues on the agenda were the Gaza situation, Afghanistan, Ukraine and BRICS cooperation. Later, he met Iranian President Raisi and informed him about his “fruitful discussions” with Iranian ministers. He said that Jaishankar had started his program by meeting Iran’s Roads and Urban Development Minister Mehrdad Bajrpash. During the meeting, both sides held detailed and “meaningful” discussions on establishing a long-term cooperation framework on the strategically important Chabahar port. Jaishankar also exchanged views on the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) with Bajrapash. Located in Sistan-Baluchistan province on energy-rich Iran’s southern coast, the Chabahar port is being developed by India and Iran to boost connectivity and trade ties, he said. India is pushing for the Chabahar port project to boost regional trade, especially its connectivity with Afghanistan. He said that at a connectivity conference in Tashkent in 2021, Jaishankar had projected the Chabahar port as a major regional transit hub, including with Afghanistan. He said that Chabahar Port is also seen as a major hub for the INSTC project.
