Brigadier Shri DS Tripathi (Retd) said that the Inter-Governmental Framework Agreement on Cooperation for the Empowerment and Operationalization of the India-West Asia-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) will advance regional connectivity. He said the key areas under this agreement include cooperation on logistics platforms that further the objectives of these special corridors. He said the India-West Asia-Europe Economic Corridor was announced in New Delhi in September during the G20 Summit. IMEC is being seen as an alternative to China’s ‘Belt and Road Initiative’ (BRI). It will connect India, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Israel and Europe.

Brigadier Shri DS Tripathi (Retd) said that in addition, the Ministry of Investment of UAE and the Ministry of Electronics and Technology of India (MeitY) have signed an MoU for cooperation on digital infrastructure projects. He said the MoU on Cooperation in Digital Infrastructure Projects will create a framework for comprehensive cooperation, including investment cooperation in the digital infrastructure sector. It will also facilitate sharing of technology knowledge, skills and expertise. He said that apart from this, the MoU on the development of National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) will promote engagement between the two countries. Its objective is to support the Maritime Heritage Complex at Lothal, Gujarat. He said the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) is an under-construction tourism complex near Lothal in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat, India that will showcase the maritime heritage of India. This complex will have museums, amusement parks, educational institutions, hotels and resorts.

Brigadier Shri DS Tripathi (Retd) said that apart from this, the agreement to link instant payment platforms (India’s) UPI and (UAE’s) ANI will facilitate seamless cross-border transactions between the two countries. He said that the agreement on linking domestic debit/credit card – RuPay (India) with Jaywan (UAE) is an important step in building cooperation in the financial sector. This will increase the universal acceptance of RuPay across the UAE. He said that apart from this, during his visit, Prime Minister Modi also interacted with the first batch of students at IIT Abu Dhabi. He also addressed a gathering of Indian expatriates at an event titled ‘Ahlan Modi’ at Zayed Sports City on Tuesday evening and inaugurated the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
