Brigadier Mr. DS Tripathi (retd) said that as far as the flood caused by the breach of dam in Ukraine is concerned, Ukraine has suffered the most due to it. There are also reports of death of many people in the occupied territory of Russia. It is the biggest environmental crisis in more than 15 months since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The Russian-controlled town of Nova Kakhovka is five kilometers from where the Kakhovka dam breached. It is being told that more than 6,000 people have been evacuated to safer places from Russia and Ukraine controlled areas near the Niper River and many cities and villages have been submerged in water. This river remains the front of the battle. At the same time, President Volodymyr Zelensky has also said after taking stock of the damage caused by the collapse of the dam that he is helping to assess the efforts to evacuate the citizens.

He said the flood level was said to be 5.6 meters above normal and some 600 square kilometers of the area was under water, more than two-thirds of the Russian-controlled east coast. Statements of world leaders have also started coming regarding this incident. French President Emmanuel Macron has said that the destruction of the dam was an ‘attack’ and an ‘atrocious act’. He said Ukrainian officials accused Russia of deliberately destroying the dam, as it was located in an area held by Russian forces, while Russia blamed Ukrainian shelling for the dam breach.
