This week in IndiaTheNews News Network’s special program Shaurya Path, we wanted to know from Brigadier Shri DS Tripathi (Retd) that at what point has the Russia-Ukraine war reached? We also wanted to know whether in view of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, should Russia and Ukraine also pause or end the war? In response, he said that the need of the hour is to end the Russia-Ukraine war because neither side is gaining anything from it. He said that the same thing had also emerged in the address of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the recently concluded virtual meeting of G-20.

Brigadier Shri DS Tripathi (Retd) said that although the latest news is that Russia has rained drone attacks in Kiev, there is no news of anyone being killed but only five people have been injured. Five people were injured after Russia fired more than 70 drones into Kiev overnight, Ukrainian officials said, calling it the largest drone attack so far in the war. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the attack on the capital as “deliberate terror”, writing on the Telegram app that “the Russian leadership is proud of the fact that it can kill”. He said that a drone designed by Iran was used in this attack. Ukrainian Air Force Chief Mykola Oleschuk said that out of 75 drones launched in Ukraine, 71 have been shot down, he said. He said Kiev Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko, writing on Telegram, said that five people, including an 11-year-old girl, were injured in the attack and that several buildings in the city had suffered some damage.

Brigadier Shri DS Tripathi (Retd) said the target of the Russian drone strike was not immediately clear, but Ukraine has warned in recent weeks that Russia would once again launch an air campaign to destroy Ukraine’s energy system. Ukraine’s Energy Ministry said the attack resulted in power supply disruptions to about 200 buildings in the capital, including 77 residential ones. Ukraine’s Air Force said the attack was Russia’s largest drone attack since the beginning of the war in February 2022, he said. It is being reported that the Russian army is trying to destroy critical infrastructure in Ukraine before winter. He said it is a matter of concern for residents of Kiev and other cities as Russia is targeting critical infrastructure and power supplies as it did last year.

Brigadier Shri DS Tripathi (Retd) said that one more thing is clearly visible that after twenty months of war, there has been a relaxation in the relations of the West with Ukraine. He said that Ukraine is heavily dependent on the West and NATO countries for military, economic and humanitarian aid to protect itself from Russian attacks, but the situation has changed significantly since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas. He said that recently the ministers of America and Britain visited Ukraine and assured it of their continued support, but a clear change is visible in the situation.
