This week in IndiaTheNews News Network’s special program Shaurya Path, we wanted to know from Brigadier Shri DS Tripathi (Retd) why there is a dispute between Israel and Palestine regarding Gaza? In response to this he said that just as Britain had adopted the strategy of divide and rule in India, it had adopted the same strategy there too. He said that just like the United Nations exists today, the League of Nations was established after the Second World War. Britain involved in it was given the responsibility to solve the problems of the Jews, but while finding the solution, Britain adopted the policy of divide and rule, which the region is suffering till today. He said that just as before the partition of India, Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs lived together, in the same way Jews, Muslims and Christians used to live together there, but Britain had created problems and divided everyone. He said that the division on the basis of community was wrong and also there was a lot of discrimination while dividing the area due to which there is always a situation of tension there.

Brigadier Shri DS Tripathi (Retd) said that the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict dates back to the second half of the 19th century when there was a demand to establish a self-governing territory for the Jewish people in Palestine. He said that the Balfour Declaration of 1917 issued by the British government supported the idea of ​​a Jewish homeland in Palestine, which led to an influx of Jewish immigrants to the region. He said international pressure for the establishment of a Jewish state in Palestine had increased following World War II and the genocide that resulted in the creation of Israel in 1948.

Brigadier Shri DS Tripathi (Retd) said that the establishment of Israel and the wars that followed and preceded it led to the displacement of thousands of Palestinians, resulting in a large number of people becoming refugees. He said that because of this there has been conflict between Israel and the Palestinian people for decades. He said that Israel’s current war with Hamas is in a way the eighth war with Palestine. He said that the first war took place in 1948-49, after that there were two wars in 1956, then one war in 1967, then a big war in 1973, then wars in 1982 and 2006 and now in 2023. There is a war going on in India too. He said that apart from this, skirmishes continue continuously on the border.

Brigadier Shri DS Tripathi (Retd) said that several peace talks have taken place in the last few years, but a permanent peace agreement has not been reached so far. He said many obstacles remain in the way of peace, including the issue of Israeli settlements in the West Bank, control of the Gaza Strip and the status of Jerusalem.
