This week in IndiaTheNews News Network’s special program Shaurya Path, we wanted to know from Brigadier Shri DS Tripathi (Retd) that Foreign Minister S. How do you view Jaishankar’s visit to Vietnam? In response to this he said that this visit was very important. He said that through this visit, Jaishankar was successful in giving the message to the world that India has emerged as a country which is capable of contributing more to the world with a high level of self-confidence and adjusting to the contradictions of the world. He said that India has deep historical and cultural ties with Vietnam, which the current leadership is taking forward. He said that in fact, China has left thousands of boats in the South China Sea in the name of fishing boats, whereas their real work is to spy, due to which all the countries in the region are troubled. He said that on one hand, China was busy in making its BRI conference a success, but on the other hand, it also had its eyes fixed on the visit of the Indian Foreign Minister to Vietnam. China keeps watching every negotiation, meeting and agreement between India and Vietnam and America and Vietnam with a vulture eye.

Brigadier Shri DS Tripathi (Retd) said that India and Vietnam are the two fastest growing economies in Asia. The bilateral trade of $15 billion between the two countries can increase further very rapidly. He said that India and Vietnam have been reliable partners for a long time. He said that Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar met the top leadership of Vietnam, including Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and discussed ways to increase cooperation between the two countries in areas like trade, energy, defense and maritime security, whose successful results will be seen in the times to come. Along with this, Jaishankar, while sharing India’s perspective in the Indo-Pacific region, also discussed about China’s aggressive behavior in the region. Jaishankar and the Foreign Minister of Vietnam also jointly released a commemorative postage stamp on the occasion of completion of 50 years of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Vietnam. The two leaders also co-chaired the 18th India-Vietnam Joint Commission Meeting in Hanoi. The discussions between the two countries included cooperation in political, defense and maritime security, judicial, trade and investment, energy, development, education and training, science and technology as well as cultural sectors. Both sides also agreed to close coordination to create a conducive environment for trade and investment activities, with an effort to bring the mutual trade to US$ 20 billion soon.

Brigadier Shri DS Tripathi (Retd) said that India, the US and many other powerful countries have been continuously emphasizing the need to ensure a free, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific region amid China’s growing advances in the resource-rich region. He said China claims almost all of the disputed South China Sea, although Taiwan, the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia and Vietnam all claim parts of it. Beijing has built artificial islands and military installations in the South China Sea. China also has a territorial dispute with Japan in the East China Sea. He said the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is considered one of the most influential groupings in the region, and India and several other countries, including the US, China, Japan and Australia, are its dialogue partners.
