This is because NATO cannot be separated from its history of European colonialism and imperialism, which shaped modern Asia and plays a key role in Chinese nationalism today. NATO declared in 2022 that China is a “challenge” to the “interests, security and values” of allies. More recently, NATO argued that China’s potential cooperation with Russia in the war against Ukraine makes China a military threat to Europe. Now NATO is opening a liaison office in Japan and it partners with Japan, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. This could be the first step in deepening European interference in the security system of Asia. Following this development, NATO intervened in 1999 and forced Serbia to withdraw from the territory of Kosovo. After this, peacekeeping soldiers were deployed there. Serbia has refused to recognize Kosovo as a country.

Brigadier Shri DS Tripathi (Retd) said that the conflict in Kosovo also happens because despite the majority of Albanians, a large number of people of Serbian origin also live in the northern region of the country. A new controversy started when a person of Albanian origin was elected in a local election. People of Serbian origin boycotted this election. When the elected representatives entered the local body building, there was a strong protest from the people of Serbia. After this, the Kosovo police released tear gas shells, which caused a stampede. It is also important to know here that Serbia has the full support of China and Russia.
