The Taliban administration in Kabul has also confirmed that a delegation led by Abdullah Ghaznavi, the head of the General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI), had come to Islamabad to discuss the TTP and the threat to Pakistan, Pakistani newspaper Express Tribune quoted sources as saying. . Significantly, a high-level delegation led by Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif had gone to Kabul last month and the same issues were discussed during that time as well.

However, Pakistan’s delegation was dissatisfied with those steps and demanded concrete action. Pakistan presented its case to the Afghan Taliban along with other evidence including the whereabouts of TTP leaders. According to the paper, during the visit to Islamabad, the Afghan delegation met with relevant officials and discussed the security situation and the future of TTP and its affiliates. Quoting sources in Kabul with knowledge of the matter, the newspaper wrote that a total of 10-member delegation, including members of the Taliban’s intelligence department, had arrived in Islamabad last week.

Sources said GDI officer Mohammad Wardak helped the delegation. The delegation had come from Kabul to convey that Pakistan’s concerns would be addressed. However, no information has been received about the outcome of this visit as both the sides are silent regarding the visit. Sources in Islamabad say that keeping in view the sensitivity of the issue, the two sides decided to discuss it away from the media. Sources in Kabul said the two sides had made some progress on various issues, but did not reserve the right to make statements to the media. According to security officials and police, the terrorists ambushed their vehicle in the northwestern region of the country bordering Afghanistan. According to the army, there was an encounter between the two sides in which seven members of the Brigadier’s team were injured.

On the other hand, Pakistan Army killed eight terrorists during an intelligence-led operation in the restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The Inter-Services Public Relations, the media wing of the Pakistan Army, said in a statement that two children caught in the crossfire had also died during the operation. Arms and ammunition were recovered from the hideout of the slain terrorists, the statement said.
