According to the World Bank, poverty in Pakistan has increased from 34.2 percent to 39.4 percent within a year. With this, more than 1.25 crore people have come below the poverty line. Tobias Haq, the World Bank’s chief economist for Pakistan, said that Pakistan’s economic model is no longer reducing poverty and the standard of living here is declining compared to peer countries. The World Bank has urged taxes on agriculture and real estate and cuts in wasteful spending.
