Indiscriminate firing on Hindu homes in Pakistan, 150-year-old temple demolished in the dark of night

Atrocities on Hindu minorities are continuing in Pakistan. Two Hindu temples, including the 150-year-old temple of Mari Mata, located in Karachi’s Soldier Bazaar, were demolished over the weekend. The attackers also fired indiscriminately at the temple and the houses of the Hindu community in the vicinity. Police reached the spot after hearing the sound of gunshots. By then the attackers fled. According to the police, the attackers used a rocket launcher during the attack. In response, a police team led by Kashmore-Kandhakot SSP Irfan Sammo quickly reached the spot to bring the situation under control. When the police team reached the spot, they (the dacoits) fired indiscriminately and fled. SSP Samu said that we are conducting a search operation in the area. Eight or nine gunmen are estimated to have been involved in the attack.

Dr. Suresh, a member of the Bagdi community, said that luckily the rocket launchers used by the dacoits failed to explode, resulting in no loss of life. On Saturday, miscreants demolished the Mari Mata temple while there was no electricity in the area. A Dawn report quoted locals as saying that diggers and bulldozers reached the temple and demolished the entire structure, leaving the outer walls and main gate intact.

Police present to provide ‘cover’

Residents alleged that Pakistan police vehicles were present in and around the Mari Mata temple to provide “cover” to those operating machines and vandalizing the Hindu temple.

Why was the Mari Mata temple demolished in Pakistan?

According to sources, the temple was demolished by an unknown builder to make way for a shopping plaza. This land was sold to the promoter for Rs 7 crore. Sources said that the trustees and NGOs associated with the temple have also not come forward to object to the demolition.
