Industry body said, most of the apps removed from Play Store are yet to be returned

New Delhi: The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) on Sunday said that Google has not reinstated most of the apps removed from the Play Store.
The association expressed concern over this. The association says it considers such drastic measures unfair and disproportionate, even though legal processes are still ongoing.
Google had delisted more than 12 apps of major Indian digital companies including Matrimony and Shaadi.com from the Play Store. Google took this action against 10 developers after they refused to follow its payment policy despite following the payment policies of other app stores.
Google launches streaming platforms Alt, Stage and Aha from Play Store; dating apps Truly Madly and Quack Quack; audio content platform Kuku FM; Apps like social networking app FRND were removed.
According to reports, after facing criticism the tech giant has reinstated some apps like Shaadi.com, Info Edge’s Naukri.com, 99Acres and Naukri Gulf and others, but many others are still delisted.
The industry body said, ‘Such measures are contrary to the practice adopted by Google in other countries and are discriminatory. In those countries it has taken a soft stance with apps developers.
The industry body further said, ‘It goes without saying that there is a need to protect the Indian technology ecosystem and provide favorable conditions that are in line with the dynamics of the Indian market and to facilitate the growth and development of an open internet ecosystem in the country. Support.’
Union IT and Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had said on Saturday, ‘He has called Google for a meeting next week.’
He had said, ‘I hope Google will be reasonable in its approach. We have a large startup ecosystem and it is important to protect their interests. We will take all necessary steps to protect our startup ecosystem. I am confident that Google will consider this matter appropriately.
IAMAI appreciated the government’s proactive response and commitment to help solve the problem. Also IAMAI again urged Google to restore the apps and re-list them on Play Store.
