International syndicate busted, more than 800 kg of cocaine seized

Sydney(Best Hindu News): Australian Federal Police have arrested three men of an international crime syndicate attempting to smuggle over 800 kg of cocaine. On 24 May, the Western Australia (WA) Police Force and Volunteer Marine Rescue WA assisted the crew of a 10-metre cabin cruiser stranded near Rottnest Island, approximately 22 km off the coast of Fremantle, police said.
Three people aboard the cruiser told police they had experienced engine trouble, although they appeared to have limited boating experience. During this, police officers found 29 suspicious packages, each containing cocaine, submerged in a water-filled ballast tank. Two men were arrested on Wednesday and taken into custody in Perth, while a third was arrested in Sydney as he prepared to flee the country. All three offenders have been charged with attempting to import a commercial quantity of a border-controlled narcotic. Police have said that if found guilty, he could be sentenced to life imprisonment.
