The ongoing protests in Iran have created problems for President Ibrahim Raisi. Due to these demonstrations, the Foreign Minister of Iran has now canceled his visit to India. The reason for this is a two-second video in which Iranian women are seen cutting their hair in protest against the picture of the President. The promotional video of this event related to the year 2023 program was released a month ago. In this video, in a clip of two seconds, it is seen that some women are seen cutting their hair. Along with him there is also a photograph of Iranian President Raisi.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdullahian was scheduled to visit India for the Raisina talks on March 3 and 4. Raisina Dialogue is a flagship think tank event organized by the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs. A promotional video of the Raisina Dialogue was released about a month ago, announcing the 2023 edition of the event. The clip, just under two minutes long, shows a two-second shot of Iranian women chopping their hair in protest alongside an image of the Iranian president.
This angered the Iranian embassy which was preparing for the visit of Foreign Minister Amir-Abdullahian to India. Sources said the Iranian embassy reached out to ORF and the foreign ministry, objecting to their depiction of the president and protesters side-by-side, and asking them to remove the sequence. However, the organizers did not agree to this. The Iranian government has informed the organizers that the minister will not be able to travel for the Raisina Dialogue.
