Iran on Monday sentenced four people to death for conspiring to target a Defense Ministry factory and working for Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad. The official IRNA news agency said the men were convicted of conspiring in 2022 to target a missile and defense equipment factory in the city of Isfahan, linked to Iran’s Defense Ministry. All four have been identified as Mohammad Faramarji, Mohsin Mazloom, Wafa Azbar and Pejman Fatehi. All four are Iranian citizens. He was given death penalty after the country’s Supreme Court upheld the death sentence awarded to him by another court in September.
The media did not reveal the manner in which the death penalty was carried out, but in Iran the death penalty is usually carried out by hanging. Iran said its intelligence personnel in 2022 destroyed a Mossad-linked group that allegedly plotted terrorist activities inside Iran. He said all the members of the group were arrested and a large quantity of weapons and explosives were seized.
Iran continues to report the arrests, trials, and death sentences of its citizens for spying for Mossad and other Western intelligence services. Iran and Israel have been accusing each other of spying and waging a proxy war. Israel considers Iran its biggest threat and has threatened to take military action to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Iran has rejected claims of trying to acquire such weapons.
