The commander of the Iranian Navy said that his country and Saudi Arabia and 3 other Gulf countries are planning to form a naval alliance. Iranian media said on Saturday that the navies of India and Pakistan would also be included in this. Commander of the Iranian Navy Shahram Irani said, “Countries in the region have understood today that only cooperation with each other can bring security to the region.” He did not say what kind of Iranian naval alliance this would be.
Iran is strengthening relations with Saudi
Commander Shahram said that this alliance will be formed soon. Actually, these days Iran is focusing on improving its relations with the Gulf countries. There has been tension between Iran and several Gulf countries for a long time. Earlier in March, the 7-year-old enmity between Saudi Arabia and Iran ended after the mediation of China. Both emphasized regional stability and economic cooperation. They agreed to resume the 2001 security cooperation agreement.
Apart from this, the implementation of earlier agreements regarding trade, economy and investment has started again. Pakistan has welcomed the normalization of relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia. The commander of the Iranian Navy said that UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Iraq, Pakistan and India will be included in this naval alliance. Israel is incensed at Saudi Arabia’s friendship with Iran, which wants to cut off Tehran diplomatically. UAE is strengthening its relations with both Iran and Israel.
Iran offered to India and Oman
Analysts say that Iran wants the countries involved in the US alliance to work together with it in the Indian Ocean. Iran has previously worked closely with the navies of Russia and China. He now wants to take advantage of the UAE’s exit from the US alliance. Iran has also given its proposal to form this alliance to India and Oman.
