Baghdad (Best Hindu News): The government of Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region has set November 18 as the date for regional parliamentary elections. Kurdistan Region Presidency spokesman Dilshad Shahab told a press conference on Sunday that Nechirvan Barzani, chairman of the Kurdistan Regional Government, set the date for the election and asked the regional authorities and the independent High Electoral Commission to prepare for the elections. “We call on the representatives of the United Nations to help make the elections a success,” Shahab said, reading out Barzani’s statement.
In October last year, the regional parliament voted to extend the four-year legislative term for another year, Xinhua news agency reported. The last regional parliamentary elections were held on 30 September 2018, in which the Kurdistan Democratic Party won 45 out of 111 seats. The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan was second with 21 out of 111 seats.
