Baghdad (Uttam Hindu News): Iraqi Shia militia has claimed responsibility for a rocket attack on a US military base in Syria’s northeastern province of al-Hasakah. According to the report, the militia called Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed in an online statement on Tuesday that its fighters fired rockets at al-Shaddadi military base and hit their targets. However the statement did not provide further details. The Iraqi armed group’s attack is part of a series of retaliatory actions against US forces amid the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip, the group’s statement said.
Meanwhile, Britain-based war monitor the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed that explosions were heard at the al-Shaddadi base. There is no news of any casualty yet. The war monitor said the incident was the 61st recorded attack on US targets in Syria since October 19.
Earlier in the day, the White House said US President Joe Biden ordered the military to launch airstrikes on three sites used by Kata’ib Hezbollah and affiliated groups in Iraq. The order came after a drone attack on a US base near Erbil air base in northern Iraq on Monday left three US service members injured, one seriously.
Later in the day, the Iraqi government condemned US airstrikes on Iraqi security sites, which killed one security member and injured 18 people, including civilians, according to a statement from the media office of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani. .
