Have the prices of food items increased? Pantry-Car
Indian Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) spokesperson Siddharth Singh says that there is no change in the price of food and drink at present. The circular for the last revision in the price of train food was issued on 14 November 2019. There has been no change since then. However, meanwhile the Corona period had arrived, and due to this the train service was stopped for several months.
what is the price now
Talking about long distance mail-express trains, its prices were fixed in the year 2019 itself. According to a circular issued by the Railway Board on November 14, 2019, at that time the price of veg breakfast was Rs 40, non-veg breakfast Rs 50, standard veg meal Rs 80 and standard non-veg meal Rs 90. If someone orders a veg meal with chicken curry, then its price was increased to Rs 130.
Provision has also been made for Biryani
Railway officials say that the popularity of Biryani is increasing. In view of this, provision of Biryani has also been made in the pantry car of the Railways. The price of veg biryani sold in the train has been fixed at Rs 80. The price of Egg Biryani has been fixed at Rs 90 while the price of Chicken Biryani has been fixed at Rs 110. For each type of biryani mentioned above, it is necessary to make 350 grams.
Service was restored after two years
After the Corona period, it took about two years for the pantry car service to be fully restored in the train. In the middle of February last year, the pantry cars of the train were buzzing again. Even during the Corona period, pantry cars were being added to the trains, but only limited service was available in them.
Limited service was available during the Corona period
With the requirements of passengers traveling by train and the easing of COVID lockdown restrictions across the country, IRCTC had introduced Pantry Car service in trains. But at that time only ready-to-eat dishes were being served. Means that there is already cooked dish, hot water is added to it and the food is ready. In this way ready-to-eat dal rice, noodles, upma, poha, chai-kafi etc were being served. But the passengers were not happy with this.
Service was closed from 23 March 2020
You must remember the first wave of Corona. At the same time, train service was stopped across the country on 23 March 2020. Simultaneously, the catering services were also suspended. With a positive decline in the Covid rates in the country, ready-to-eat meals were being served in the train from 05.08.2020. IRCTC says that the biggest task at that time was to protect people from infection. That’s why cooking was not started by lighting a furnace in a moving train. When the situation steadily improved, a full-fledged pantry car service was introduced.
