Operation Kanak-2: CBI raids 30 locations of FCI in Punjab in corruption case

New Delhi : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday began raids at 30 places in Punjab in connection with the probe into allegations of corruption against Food Corporation of India (FCI) officials who procured substandard food grains to benefit traders and rice millers. Officials associated with the case said that CBI teams raided the premises of grain traders, rice mill owners and serving and retired officers of FCI in several districts of Punjab, including Sirhind, Fatehpur Sahib and Monga, under ‘Operation Kanak 2’.
This is the second raid in connection with an FIR related to an organized group of officers in FCI. The group is alleged to have taken a bribe of Rs 1000-4000 per truck unloaded at FCI godowns per crop season, covering up low quality grains supplied by private millers and other benefits. Later, the bribe amount was distributed among the lower level to higher level officials.
The FIR details the collection of such bribes in several FCI depots in Punjab. He said officials ranging from technical assistants to executive directors were allegedly involved in the racket taking bribes from private mill owners.
Let us tell you that earlier on Tuesday, raids are being conducted on the premises of Uflex Limited by the Income Tax Department. The department is conducting searches at 64 places of the company in the country. Search operations are going on in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Jammu-Kashmir, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh in the places of the company being raided. The packaging company Uflex is accused of sending money to China through hawala and crypto currency.
