Islamabad High Court extended the interim bail period of former minister Imran Khan

Significantly, the High Court had on Wednesday warned of cancellation of interim bail of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, expressing displeasure over his continuous absence from various court hearings.
Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan on Thursday appeared before the Islamabad High Court amid tight security, which granted him relief and extended his interim bail in nine different cases. Khan appeared before a two-member bench of the Islamabad High Court headed by Chief Justice Ameer Farooq. Significantly, the High Court on Wednesday warned of cancellation of interim bail of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, expressing displeasure over his continuous absence from various court hearings.
The court had on April 18 extended Khan’s bail till May 3 in eight cases. After hearing the arguments, the court extended Khan’s interim bail by 10 days in seven cases. The court also directed Khan to appear before the concerned district court during this period for permanent bail. Besides this, the court extended Khan’s bail till May 9 in two other cases. Earlier in the day, Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party shared a video on Twitter, in which the 70-year-old leader’s car can be seen surrounded by his supporters.
The video shows Khan’s car driving up to the entrance of the Islamabad High Court amid tight security. Security was beefed up around the court ahead of the appearance of Khan, who arrived in the capital from Lahore this morning to retain his interim bail. PTI released a brief video statement of party chairman Khan as he left for Islamabad. Khan, who was on a wheelchair, said, “We respect the courts, so will appear (before the court) despite pain and swelling in my leg.”
