Jaishankar and Vietnamese Foreign Minister release commemorative postage stamps to mark 50 years of diplomatic relations

Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and his Vietnamese counterpart Bui Thanh Son on Monday jointly released two commemorative postage stamps to mark 50 years of India-Vietnam diplomatic relations. Jaishankar, who arrived on a four-day official visit to Vietnam on Sunday, met Prime Minister Pham Min Chin and extended good wishes to him on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Earlier, he met his Vietnamese counterpart Son and discussed ways to enhance cooperation in trade, energy, defense and maritime security while sharing perspectives on the Indo-Pacific region. The postage stamp, issued jointly by the Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam and the Ministry of External Affairs of India, the Indian Embassy in Vietnam and the Vietnam Post Corporation, aims to showcase the cultures of the two countries.
The stamps depict Vovinam and Kalaripattau, the traditional martial arts of Vietnam and India, the state-run Vietnam News Agency reported. It also has a picture of the joint flags of the two countries. It has been said in the news that the design of the postage stamp on Kalaripattu has been made by Indian painter Brahma Prakash, while the design of the postage stamp on Vovinam has been made by Vietnamese painter Pham Trung Ha. Jaishankar said on social media platform ‘X’, “Jointly unveiled commemorative postage stamps to mark 50 years of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Vietnam.” The tickets depict our shared passion for sports. Also underlines the strong cultural, social and people-to-people ties between India and Vietnam.
India and Vietnam officially established diplomatic relations on January 7, 1972, and expanded their relations to the level of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2016. Jaishankar also met former Foreign Minister of Vietnam Nguyen Di Nien during his visit to Hanoi. “Had a memorable conversation with Nguyen De Nien, former Foreign Minister of Vietnam (2000-06),” he said in a post on ‘X’. Being a BHU student in the 1950s, his sentiments towards India and Varanasi are truly inspiring.” Jaishankar will travel to Singapore from Vietnam and visit there on October 19 and 20.
