Tokyo, January 12 (Hindustan Reporter) Japan launched an H2A rocket carrying a government intelligence-gathering satellite on Friday on its mission to monitor North Korea’s military activities and improve response to natural disasters. This information was given in the report of local newspaper Japan Today.
According to Japan Today report, it was launched by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Limited. It lifted off from Tanegashima Space Center in southwestern Japan carrying the optical Kogaku-8 satellite as part of a reconnaissance effort over Tokyo. This satellite can take pictures even in bad weather. Japan started an intelligence-gathering satellite program after a North Korean missile flew over Japan in 1988. It aims to establish a network of 10 satellites to detect and provide early warning of potential missile launches.
According to Japan Today, if this launch places the satellite in its intended orbit, it will be the 42nd successful launch for this modification. This will increase the success rate of H2A to 97.9 percent.
