‘What Shotaro did was wrong’
In some photographs, Shotaro was seen standing in the middle of relatives. In the official group photo of the Cabinet, this place is reserved for the Prime Minister. In other pictures, the guests were seen sitting on the dais as if they were at a press conference. “As secretary of political affairs, which is a public position, Shotaro’s actions were inappropriate and I have decided to replace him to hold him accountable,” Prime Minister Kishida told reporters on Monday night.
Kishida left after welcoming the guests.
Kishida said another secretary, Takayoshi Yamamoto, would replace his son on Thursday as acting policy secretary for political affairs. Kishida admitted that he had welcomed the guests but did not stay for dinner. Earlier, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno described the incident as ‘inappropriate’ and promised that the residence would not be misused again.
