Ranchi. Jharkhand State Electricity Regulatory Commission (JSERC) on Wednesday increased the electricity tariff in the state by 7.66 percent. Under the new rates, domestic consumers in rural areas will have to pay Rs 6.30 per unit instead of Rs 5.80, while urban consumers will have to pay Rs 6.65 per unit instead of Rs 6.30, JSERC said in a statement.
The revised fee rate will be effective from March 1. It said the government will continue to provide subsidies, including 125 units of free power for domestic customers and relief through various subsidy slabs up to 400 units. Despite JBVNL (Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Ltd.) proposing a 39.71 percent increase, the Commission took note and approved 7.66 percent increase. The statement said that the fixed charge for rural consumers has been increased by Rs 25, while the fixed charge for urban consumers has been kept unchanged.
Additionally, a discount of two percent is offered on bills paid within five days of production. The Commission has kept the tariff for rooftop solar PV projects unchanged at Rs 4.16/kWh for gross metering and Rs 3.80/kWh for net metering. Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren told reporters that about 20 lakh people have benefited from the 100 units free electricity scheme. “About 30 lakh consumers will benefit from increasing the limit of free electricity to 125 units,” he said.
