Joe Biden announces $42 billion high-speed internet program

Washington: The US is planning to expand the reach of high-speed internet service and for this the administration of President Joe Biden has announced an amount of more than US$ 42 billion. According to a White House press release, more than 8.5 million homes and small businesses are still in areas with no high-speed internet infrastructure, and millions of people struggle with limited or unreliable internet options. The White House said the announcement is part of the administration’s efforts to ensure that everyone in America has access to affordable, reliable high-speed Internet as part of Biden’s Invest in America agenda.

The White House compared the largest Internet fading announcement in the nation’s history to Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Rural Electrification Act, which brought electricity to nearly every home and farm in America in the 1930s. The amounts range from $27 million to more than $3.3 billion, the release said. This will give each state a minimum of $107 million. It said that 19 states have received allocations of more than one billion dollars.

Among them, Alabama, California, Georgia, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Washington are in the top 10. The White House said that with these allocations and other investments from the Biden administration, all 50 states, D.C. And the regions now have the resources to connect every resident and small business to reliable, affordable high-speed Internet by 2030.
