Jordan urges more humanitarian aid to Gaza

Amman (Uttam Hindu News): Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi has called on the international community to urgently work together to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. Safadi made the comments during separate meetings with his Cypriot counterpart Constantinos Kombos and Belgian counterpart Hadja Lahabib in the capital Amman, according to a statement from his ministry on Sunday, where they discussed efforts to stop the escalation in Gaza.
Their talks came as Israel stepped up its airstrikes and ground operations against the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip to respond to an October 7 attack by Hamas on Israeli border towns, Xinhua news agency reported.
During the meetings, the Jordanian minister warned against an escalation of the ongoing conflict in Gaza and described Israel’s attacks as a clear violation of international law. He stressed the importance of taking forward a resolution recently adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, which called for a cessation of hostilities and the protection of civilians, while upholding legal and humanitarian obligations.
Safadi said that only a just and lasting peace based on a two-state solution will ensure security and peace for both Palestinians and Israelis. He condemned the killing of civilians on both sides, emphasizing upholding universal human values and respecting civilian lives.
