Kenya: In the name of meeting Jesus, so many people starved to death in Kenya, now the police is taking out the bodies from the graves

In the African country of Kenya, at the behest of a Christian priest, some people committed mass suicide by starving. Police recovered their bodies from the Shakahola forest in Kilfi province. About 14 mass graves have been dug so far and Hussain Khalid has seen people digging dozens of bodies in the last four days. Speaking to the BBC, he said that the deceased were believed to be members of the Good News International Church. He is believed to have been persuaded to starve himself in order to reach heaven, before being told that the world was about to end.

Khaled runs the rights organization Hockey Africa. The organization took the officials to the grave sites last weekend after being tipped off by some locals. The place is inside the Shakhola forest and he says that he and his team needed to cut bushes to drive there. So far 89 bodies have been retrieved, but the final number could be much higher as the Red Cross said 112 people were reported missing.

Khalid estimates that there are about 60 mass grave sites in the area and only a quarter of them have been investigated. Police say 29 survivors have been found so far, but it appears not all of them wanted to be saved.
