Khalistan supporters shocked, Canada school program canceled

toronto (Best Hindu News)-The program of Khalistan supporters to be held in Surrey, British Columbia on September 10 has been cancelled. The aim of conducting plebiscite through this program is to establish Khalistan in Punjab. India has expressed displeasure over the use of Canadian territory for separatist referendum.
A hall of the school was hired for the ‘Khalistan Referendum’ programme. Early last week, Indian-Canadians, upset over the referendum and the use of a government school for the purpose, complained to the school board. These people had expressed displeasure over pasting of posters of Talwinder Singh Parmar around the school premises. Parmar is believed to be the mastermind of the terrorist bombing of Air India Flight 182, Kanishka, which claimed 329 lives on 23 June 1985.
The poster of the event also featured an AK-47, as well as the name of the banned Khalistani group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), which is led by Gurpatwant Singh Pannu. It also contained photographs of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was shot dead in a parking lot in Surrey in June. The school authority stated, “Our primary mission as a school district is to ensure quality education, support for our students and a safe environment for our school communities. Our agreements, policies and guidelines support creating a safe environment for our community. Anyone taking our facilities will have to follow it.” The school district said the decision “is not in any way an endorsement or criticism of any political position.” The developments come amid the recent appearance of pro-Khalistani posters threatening Indian diplomats and establishments in Canada.
