Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla on Wednesday became the fourth member of his family to receive the country’s top civilian award when he was awarded the Padma Bhushan. Birla, 55, was conferred with the Padma Bhushan, the country’s third highest civilian award, by President Draupadi Murmu. Earlier, Birla’s mother Rajshree Birla had also received the Padma Bhushan in the year 2011. His great-grandfather G D Birla was also awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian honor in the year 1957.

While Kumar Mangalam Birla’s grandfather BK Birla’s cousin GP Birla was also awarded the Padma Bhushan in the year 2006. In this way, he has become the fourth member from his family to receive the Padma Award. He took over the helm of the Aditya Birla Group 28 years ago and during this time expanded it into new business areas. At present the presence of this group is in 36 countries of the world. Kumar Mangalam Birla said in the statement, “The spirit of nation-building and trusteeship has guided my family for generations. It is indeed a matter of humility to receive this national honour.” He also thanked the President and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this prestigious honour.
