Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan has been asked to appear before the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACE) on Monday in connection with a case related to fraudulently buying 5,000 kanals (625 acres) of land at throwaway prices. An ACE spokesman said on Saturday that Khan, his sister Uzma Khan and her husband Ahad Majeed have been summoned in a corruption case in Laiya district of Pakistan’s Punjab province. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party chief Imran Khan (70) has been asked to appear before the ACE director general on June 19, while Uzma and her husband have been asked to appear before the ACE director general, The Express Tribune reported. . The spokesperson claimed that the ACE has clear evidence of Khan’s involvement in the Laiya corruption case.

He said that the revenue officials of Bani Gala were pressurized to transfer the land illegally. Khan’s residence is at this place in Islamabad. Uzma is accused of alleged forgery in the purchase of 5,261 kanals of land in the district. The market value of this land is about six billion dollars, while it was bought for only 13 crore Pakistani rupees. ACE said that an FIR has been registered against the couple. According to the spokesperson, the land was fraudulently purchased in 2021-22 and Uzma and Majeed made fraudulent transfers of land in their names. He said that this land was bought when the Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced financial assistance for the Greater Thal Canal project.

The spokesperson said that Uzma had prior knowledge about the project and the couple forced the landowner to sell his land to them. The landowners had filed complaints against Uzma and others for forcibly buying their land. ACE said last week that the suspects were using political influence to grab land from local people who had been living there for years. A case was registered against Khan on Sunday in the Laiya land corruption case. The total number of cases registered against him has risen to over 140 after he was ousted as prime minister in April last year. Most of the cases registered against Khan are related to terrorism, incitement to violence, arson, blasphemy, attempt to murder, corruption and cheating.
