Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, the great son of India, was born on 23 January 1897. The philosophy of Swami Vivekananda, his Guru Swami Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Sri Aurobindo had a great impact on the life of Subhash Babu. Fulfilling father’s wish, he took admission in Cambridge University to sit in ICS, the most important exam of those days and passed that exam within eight months, but for the sake of the country, he presented a unique example by abandoning ICS job. .

Subhash reached Bombay on 16 July 1921 and met Mahatma Gandhi at his residence. Young Subhash was entering public life for the independence of the nation and wanted to meet the leader who had started the non-cooperation movement against the British in the whole country. Gandhi ji suggested Subhash to reach Calcutta and meet Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das. Which he accepted. At that time there was a wave in the country under the leadership of Gandhiji and boycott of English clothes, assembly, courts and educational institutions were also being done. Subhash decided to jump into this war and started leading the protest. The British officers were horrified to see the nature of the movement. He arrested Subhash along with his companions in the evening of 10 December 1921 and sent him to jail. He was released from jail after one year. But soon the British sent Subhash to Mandalay Jail by accusing him of revolutionary conspiracy. After two years Subhash was brought from Mandalay to Calcutta where he was released on health grounds. Subhash first led the Congress at the age of 30 when he was elected President of the Bengal Provincial Committee. In January 1938, when he was on a foreign tour, he was elected the President of the All India National Congress. Indian history and Subhash’s life took a new turn after assuming the leadership of the Congress. Gandhiji gave his support to Sitaramaiya, so keeping in view of Gandhiji’s wish, after resigning from the post of president, Subhash established a forward group named Forward Block. After talking with Barrister Jinnah on the problem of Hindu-Muslim unity, he reached Veer Savarkar’s house. Subhash’s arrival at Veer Savarkar’s house was a historic event. This episode has been described in Abhinav Bharat. In this meeting, Savarkar conveyed to Subhash the idea of assuming the command of the leadership of the armed struggle. After carefully accepting Savarkar’s ideas, crossing various routes, facing two months of inexplicable difficulties and secrecy, dilemma, anxiety and physical suffering, Subhash reached Berlin via Moscow in the month of April in 1941. Nine months later, he addressed the Indians from Germany Radio, then the secret was revealed that he had reached far away from India. Germany assured Subhash to give freedom to run all kinds of activities and help him to fight the British.

As soon as Subhash Bose reached Germany, with the help of the Council of Freedom Fighters, formed the Azad Hind government under the chairmanship of Ras Bihari Bose, which was assisted by Japan, Germany, Brahmadesh, Philippines, Irish Republic Manchuria and Italy. Now military exercises for the liberation of India The preparations started. In February 1944, India and Japan started a joint operation in the jungles of Burma. After crossing many difficult and dangerous stages, the Azad Hind Fauj entered the Indian border in March but had to return. After the failure of the campaign, special care had to be taken to increase the morale of the soldiers. On August 15, 1945, the news of Japan’s defeat was received after America dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Therefore, Netaji and his cabinet unanimously decided this and they reached Manchuria, the Russian occupied area via Singapore, Bangkok. There he called Colonel Stracey and gave clear instructions that he should start the construction of the Azad Hind Fauj Memorial on the seashore in Singapore at the earliest. It was about to be the morning of 16th August. Netaji got up, collected some of his personal belongings and clothes and prepared for the journey which he was calling the campaign towards the unknown goal. On August 17, 1945, in the morning, Netaji went to Bangkok airport to see people off. On August 22, 1945, the whole world was shocked to hear the news of Netaji’s death in an air crash in Formosa Island, broadcast from Tokyo Radio.

In the First War of Independence of 1857, after the defeat of the Britishers, the British had run a very harsh cycle of repression. Thousands of people were hanged. As a result, in the absence of an organized army, the youth started punishing the British by forming small groups. Many youths went abroad to get weapons. They came to be called revolutionaries. This chain continued. Their sacrifices kept the flame of armed struggle burning for the freedom struggle. In 1939 war broke out between European countries in Europe and North Africa. In which the British started getting defeated one after the other. Many Indian soldiers were also taken prisoner in this. Then in the mind of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, by contacting the captive soldiers, he tried to form an army for the freedom struggle. In those days he was a prisoner in his own house. One day in 1941, he left the house by dodging the British and reached Berlin by taking a difficult route. There, with the help of Germany and Italy, he contacted the Indian prisoners of war. In no time, he raised an army. But his initial plan failed here due to the outbreak of war between Germany and Russia. After some time he reached East Asia in June 1943 amidst various hindrances and incidents. First of all he went to Tokyo. There the Japanese Prime Minister General Tojo accepted all their conditions and declared full and unconditional support for India’s independence in the Japanese Parliament.

On 21 October 1943, the provisional government of Azad Hind Fauj was formally sworn in in Singapore. Azad Hind Fauj started efforts for the war. In the new army, there was Rani Lakshmi Bai Regiment of women, and a branch of Azad Hind Bal Sena was also opened for teenagers. His regular training had started. Netaji Subhash and Azad Hind Fauj have immense contribution in the freedom of the country which cannot be forgotten.
