Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, who played an important role in the freedom struggle of the country, was the owner of a great and talented personality. He was ready to lay down his life for the freedom of the motherland. We can understand this very easily from the letter written by him from jail to his brother Sharad Chandra Basu. I would like to place in front of you a part of the letter written by Netaji to his brother, “The conclusion I have reached is the result of spontaneous thoughts. On closer inspection, it would appear to be stronger. The more days that pass in prison, the more I am convinced that what lies at the root of the struggle for life is the struggle of dogmas, the struggle of truth and false beliefs. Some call it the different levels of truth. Man is governed by thoughts only. All these thoughts are not passive but active and dialectical. Like Hegel’s Absolute Idea, Hippmann and Schopenhauer’s Blind Will, and Henri Vergne’s Allan Wittel, this idea is functional. It makes its own way. I am just a toy of clay, only a few sparks of God’s effulgence are enshrined in me. We have to surrender ourselves in front of this belief. The one who can rise above the loss and disease of the worldly and mortal body, success is inevitable in his life. One day my ideal will be victorious, this is my firm belief. Therefore, I am not at all worried about my health and future. Whatever I have written in reply to the terms of the Government is my firm and clear opinion. Some people say that I am playing patwari tricks to get the best terms. I am saddened by his fearlessness. I am not a shopkeeper, I do not know how to bargain. I abhor the tottering way of treacherous tricks. I stand on the axis of an ideal. That’s enough. I don’t have so much love for life that I take refuge in cleverness to protect it. My concept of value is freer than the prevailing concept. I do not believe that the success or futility of life can be decided only by physical and material pleasures. Our struggle does not expect physical strength, material gain is not the object of our struggle. St. Paul’s statement is – ‘We are fighting against flesh and blood. Our fight is against those who are the heroes of the darkness of the earth, our fight is against the injustice of high positions.’ Freedom and truth are our ideals, as day comes after night, our efforts are also true, truth will surely succeed. Our body may be destroyed, but on the strength of unwavering faith and formidable determination, our victory is inevitable. Who will be fortunate enough to see the successful outcome of our efforts, his protector is only God. About myself I can say that I will keep doing my work, after that whatever has to happen, will happen.

Netaji writes in a letter to the Indian youth, especially to the youth of Bengal, “When I had to stay in jails outside India for months and months, the question often arose in my mind – for whom, with whose inspiration, we suffer the tortures of the jails?” Have you not broken even after suffering but have become more powerful? The meaning of the answer to this question from within is-India has a ‘mission’, a glorious future; We are the inheritors of that future of India. We are creating the history of liberation of New India and we will do so. It is faith only then I can bear all sorrows, I can reject the darkness of the future, I can mix the harsh truths of reality into dust with the harsh blow of ideal. This is the unshakable faith which has made the youth power of Bengal death-defying. The person who has this ‘faith’, this self-confidence, is the creator, he is entitled to serve the country. Whatever great effort there is in the world is but a reflection of the self-belief and creative power of the human mind. The person who does not have faith in himself and his nation, can he ever build anything?

Hundreds of salutes on the birth anniversary of this great son of India, who waged war against the British Raj in the country and abroad for the honor and freedom of the motherland! In the next 25 years, the role of the youth is going to be very important. 100 years ago, in 1923, Subhash Chandra Bose called upon the youth and said, after so many days, we have realized our power. When the sleeping soul of the youth has awakened, then the bloody melody of youth will again be visible in all the four places of life. Today, in all the countries of the world, especially where the cool shadow of old age is visible, the youth community is raising its head and trying to be natural.
