Lexus ready to enter used car market, will introduce first electric vehicle in India by 2025

New Delhi. Lexus, the Japanese luxury car maker, plans to enter the used car (second hand) business in India next year. The company has completed six years of operations in the Indian market. The Japanese company currently sells its products through 23 sales outlets. The company plans to revamp some of its outlets to enter the used car market. Lexus, known for its self-charging hybrid cars, intends to introduce its first electric model in the country by 2025. Lexus India President Naveen Soni told PTI that Lexus is seriously considering a structured pre-owned used car programme.
He said that the company will start this business at select outlets depending on the business viability of the dealer partners. Soni said, “I think very soon, probably in the third quarter of this year or early next year, we will start this.” He said that the company started selling vehicles in the country six years ago and now there may be customers who would like to sell their old car and buy a new car. “So we can convert some centers into used car outlets on a stand-alone basis.”
When asked about the company’s electric vehicle strategy, Soni said, “Lexus came out with a few vehicles last year which we tested in different climatic conditions. We also tried to know the opinion of the customers on this. In such a situation, we have got good information about this. “We hope to have our first electric product in India by 2025.” Lexus is the luxury car-making arm of Japan’s Toyota. Lexus intends to become a fully electric car company by 2035.
