Weeks after a deadly wave of Covid, China is reported to be battling an influenza outbreak. Children are said to be the worst affected and authorities have warned of a lockdown if there is no way out of the situation. However, the public has also released its displeasure at the prospect of another lockdown. People say that by doing this, the situation like during Kovid will return again.

Influenza cases are increasing in Xi’an province of China. Jinping’s officials in Xi’an, with a population of 15 million, are planning to lock schools, businesses and public buildings. Even in Xi’an, an emergency response plan has been prepared by the local administration to impose a lockdown. It states that infected areas in the city can be cordoned off. An order will also be issued to reduce traffic. Apart from this, production and business activities can be suspended. Shopping malls, theatres, tourist places and other crowded places will also remain closed.

According to the weekly Covid surveillance report released on Saturday by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, there has been a significant increase in the positivity rate of flu. In the week beginning March 5, the flu positivity rate rose to 41.6%, a significant increase from the previous week’s rate of 25.1%. Meanwhile, the positivity rate for COVID-19 dropped from 5.1% to 3.8%.
