Macron urged Europe to develop its own air defense system and not depend on the US

Paris. French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday called on European countries to increase self-reliance for airspace security and not rely too much on the US. In a closing speech to a conference in Paris of defense ministers and other representatives from 20 European countries, Macron advocated developing its own defense system to protect Europe’s airspace. French organizers said the meeting discussed anti-drone warfare and ballistic missile defense systems. In addition, the importance and effectiveness of such equipment was also recognized after Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine.

He informed that the agenda of the meeting also included the issue of prevention of nuclear weapons. “We need to know what is the threat status of the airspace,” Macron said. Because Americans have standardized these things a lot more than we do.
