Old Pension Scheme: Maharashtra government employees have called off the strike. According to the information, an agreement was reached regarding getting benefits equal to the old pension of the employees, after which the strike ended. The Maharashtra government employees, who have been agitating for the demand of restoring the old pension system, on Monday called off their one-week-long strike. There was a conversation between the representatives of the agitating employees and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde which was successful. After this conversation, it was decided to call off the strike.

Vishwas Katkar, convenor of the coordination committee of striking trade unions, said that the state government has agreed ‘in principle’ to give monetary benefits at par with the old pension system to the employees covered under the New Pension System (NPS). Government employees were on an indefinite strike since March 14 demanding the restoration of the old pension system.

The government had warned

The Shinde-Fadnavis government had also warned the striking employees to impose MESMA. Despite this the workers were not ready to call off the strike. It is being told that this time lakhs of Maharashtra government employees were seen in a negative mood regarding OPS. The work was badly affected due to the strike. Along with this, the state government was also getting dirty.

Maharashtra government had found a new way

The Shinde-Fadnavis government had found a new way of running the work smoothly. The Maharashtra government had given contract to appoint employees to 9 private agencies, which would work to fill government and semi-government vacant posts. These appointments were to be made on contract. The Ministry of Industry and Labor of the government had also taken out a GR in this regard. Under which trained and untrained people were to be given contract jobs in government departments.
