A Malaysian of Indian origin has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment and ten strokes of the cane for drug smuggling in Singapore. Devendran Shanugam, a cleaner at a community center in Singapore, pleaded guilty to two charges related to attempted possession of drugs with intent to smuggle, Channel News Asia reported on Tuesday. On Monday he was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment and ten strokes of the cane. He had learned about the drug smuggling ‘opportunity’ from his supervisor, Indian-origin Malaysian Tiben Raj Anbalagan. Tiben Raj owed money to an unknown person whom he called ‘Boss’.
