Man convicted in death of five-year-old Indian-American boy

New York (Best Hindu News): A 35-year-old US man has been found guilty of murder in the 2021 murder of five-year-old Maya Patel. Media reports state that Maya was playing in her hotel room on Monkhouse Drive, Shreveport in March 2021 when a bullet fired from Joseph Lee Smith’s gun missed the target and hit her. According to the Shreveport Times, Smith got into an altercation with another man in the parking lot of the Super 8 Motel, which was then owned and operated by Vimal and Snehal Patel, who lived with Maya and a younger brother.
The bullet hit Maya in the head when Smith used it to attack the other man, the Times reported. Maya was taken to a nearby hospital, where she battled for life for three days before being declared brought dead on March 23. The court convicted Smith in the case. He will be sentenced on February 27. He could face up to 40 years in prison in this case.
