Many countries, international organizations condemned the murder of former MP of Afghanistan

Kabul. Several international organizations and countries, including the United Nations and the United States, on Monday condemned the killing of a former Afghan lawmaker. Former MP Mursal Nabizada and his bodyguard were shot dead by unidentified assailants at their home in Kabul. Nabizada was one of the few women parliamentarians who were still living in Kabul after the Taliban seized power in August 2021. It is the first time since the Taliban regained power in the country, a lawmaker from the old government has been killed in the city.

“Hold the perpetrators accountable,” tweeted Karen Decker, the US’s interim ambassador to Afghanistan. It is a sad loss. I express my condolences to Mursal’s family and hope that they will get justice after this senseless act. “Demand for speedy, thorough and transparent investigation and bringing the culprits to justice.”

Hannah Neumann, a member of the European Parliament, also tweeted her condolences over Nabeezada’s killing. Abdullah Abdullah, who was a top official in the former Western-backed government in Afghanistan, said he was saddened by Nabizada’s death and hoped the perpetrators would be punished. He described Nabizada as “the representative and servant of the people”. Local police chief Hamidullah Khalid said the former MP’s brother and another bodyguard were also injured in the attack, while a third security guard fled the house with money and jewelry.
