Maryam Nawaz, 50, on Sunday visited Kot Lakhpat jail, where she and her father Nawaz Sharif served jail terms in corruption cases. He broke iftar (breaking of fast) with the female prisoners. She sat with the female prisoners and gave them samosas, pakodas, fruits and biryani. He also saw the jail cell where three-time Prime Minister of the country Nawaz Sharif was lodged in the Panama Papers corruption case. After this, he went to London for treatment on medical grounds in 2019.
The Chief Minister said on social media platform ‘X’ that it was an emotional moment to see the cell of MNS (Mian Nawaz Sharif), where the three-time Prime Minister was kept. I was in the same jail but I was never allowed to go to him. This was seen today. He is the ‘kingmaker’ today while his oppressors are nowhere.
During his visit, he also announced a three-month reprieve in the sentences of prisoners and the release of 155 prisoners across the province. The Chief Minister said that due to flaws in the justice system, even innocent people have to suffer punishment. We will improve the jail system.
