Adam Pascale, chief scientist at the Center for Seismology Research, told ABC TV: “This quake is 100 times smaller than the one in September 2021, but it was very close to Melbourne.” Hence it was felt with the same intensity but for a shorter duration.

Melbourne’s building code requires new commercial and residential buildings to be able to withstand earthquakes between magnitude 6.5 and 7. But there is no rule for houses here, nor for buildings built before 1989. On Sunday night, the State Emergency Service said it was sending a crew to inspect a building that had reported cracks.
Pakistan shook by earthquake
On the other hand, in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, at least three children were injured due to two tremors on Sunday. The officers provided this information. Subsequently, a second earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred at 5.57 pm. The PDM said the epicenter of the second quake was near Jalalabad in Afghanistan at a depth of 15 km. Three children were injured when the roof of a cattle shed collapsed during the earthquake in Battagram district. Earthquakes of varying intensities occur frequently in Pakistan. The deadliest earthquake to hit Pakistan in 2005 killed more than 74,000 people.
