The government will sell rice under the ‘Bharat Rice’ brand at the rate of Rs 29 per kg in the retail market from next week. Apart from this, traders have been instructed to disclose the stock of rice. Union Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra said in a press conference today that despite the ban on export of various varieties of rice, retail and wholesale prices of rice have increased by about 15 percent in the last one year. Before this, to beat inflation, ‘Bharat Atta’ is being sold at the rate of Rs 27.50 per kg and ‘Bharat Dal’ (gram) at Rs 60 per kg. The government issued a statement saying that there is no plan yet to lift the ban on export of rice. It is only a rumor that the ban on export of rice is being lifted. Chopra said that retailers and wholesalers and food processors have been asked to provide information about the stock of rice of the new rate.
