Islamabad (Best Hindu News): Around 101 people have died and 180 others have been injured so far during the ongoing monsoon season in Pakistan that began on June 25. The country’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) gave this information. The NDMA said on Thursday that the country’s eastern Punjab province was worst affected by the rains, where 57 people died and 118 were injured. In addition, 53 houses were destroyed in heavy rains across the province, including the provincial capital Lahore.
Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi called Lahore’s rain “record-breaking” as it caused floods in the city, inundating several areas and disrupting road traffic for hours. The province’s Rawalpindi city also received heavy rains for over 12 hours on Wednesday, resulting in water levels in rivers and streams rising to dangerous levels and the local municipal authority calling in the army to help deal with any untoward situation. At least 12 people were killed when a wall of an under-construction bridge collapsed on laborers living in makeshift tents on Wednesday due to heavy rains in the city.
According to a district administration spokesperson, rain gauge stations recorded rainfall up to 200 mm in several areas of the city, leading to urban flooding and roof collapse. A total of 25 people were killed and 41 others injured in separate rain-related accidents in the country’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the NDMA said.
