Tehran: More than a hundred people died and about 150 were injured in two explosion incidents in Kerman city of Iran on Wednesday. Officials have described the attacks as ‘acts of terrorism’.
According to the reports of Iran’s news agency and other media channels, these powerful explosions took place at some intervals outside the grave of Kashim Soleimani, the former chief of Iran’s famous security force Revolutionary Guard. This place is 820 kilometers south-east of the capital Tehran. Iran’s main news agency quoted Rahman Jalali, deputy governor of Kerman province, as saying that the attack was ‘an act of terrorism.’
According to the reports of media channels, today was the death anniversary of Soleimani and on this occasion there was a crowd of people near the graveyard. There are reports of 103 people killed and 141 injured in the blasts. The number of casualties is expected to increase.
Commander Soleimani was killed by the US in a missile strike conducted through a drone in Iraq in January 2020. A huge crowd had gathered at his funeral and in the stampede, 53 people were killed and more than two hundred were injured.
Some reports said the two explosions in Kerman on Wednesday occurred about ten minutes apart. The security personnel had evacuated the areas.
