The letter said that there is a massive hate campaign against the Ahmadiyya community and the Waqf Board does not have the authority to determine the religious identity of any community, including Ahmadiyyas. The demolition of minarets at their places of worship is the latest crackdown against the community, following a campaign last month to prevent Ahmadis from performing sacrifices on Eid al-Adha, Dawn reported. The campaign is being led by Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP). A poster released by TLP’s social media wing in Sarai Alamgir town near Jhelum said: “From Shaandaar Chowk to Qadiani Centre, all minarets will be demolished.” The campaign will begin at 10 am on the 10th of Muharram (July 29) from TLP’s office in Sarai Alamgir, the poster said.

United Nations washes Pakistan

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has expressed concern over the treatment of Ahmadis in Pakistan and called on the government to respond to allegations of violations of international law. “We would like to draw your government’s attention to the information we have received about growing discrimination and incidents of hate speech and incitement of violence against the Ahmadi religious minority in Pakistan, including attacks on their places of worship and other acts of intimidation,” the OHCHR said in its letter.
