With this, news is now coming that apart from the much-anticipated deal for jet engine technology, India and the US will also sign a $3 billion deal for the outright purchase of 30 MQ-9 Reaper or Predator B drones. Sources in the defense and security establishment said the Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) headed by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh approved the mega deal on Thursday. The procurement file presented by the Indian Navy will now go through a bureaucratic process before Modi leaves for Washington next week. The three services agreed to the drone deal, which is a tri-services acquisition but is being led by the Navy.

The wingspan of the MQ 9 Reaper drone is 20 metres. Reaper 9 is capable of carrying sensors and laser-guided bombs, apart from air-to-surface missiles. It has the capability to fly continuously for 27 hours and can operate up to 50,000 feet with a payload capacity of 3,850 pounds (1,746 kg). The drone also has a take-off weight of 1746 kg. Indian Navy It is the premier service for the Air Force and is pursuing the matter thoroughly.The three Services also have plans to go for similar types of medium altitude and long-endurance drones from indigenous sources.
